For Lakeview, Garret Cavendish and Calin Englund had three hits each in the second game. SOFTBALL Reed City 6-13, Lakeview 9-8 LAKEVIEW - The Reed City softball team split a conference doubleheader with Lakeview on Tuesday night, losing the first game, 9-6, before winning the second game, 13-8. Julianne Griffin got the pitching loss in the first game, giving up 15 hits and nine runs while striking out four batters. Lindsey Greer, Skiler Brigham, Brittani Yarger and Ally Yarger all had one hit in the setback. Olivia Lawson started the second game for the Coyotes, giving up eight runs on six hits and striking out six through four innings of work before Griffin came in for the last three innings, allowing two hits with five strikeouts. Taylor Steig had three hits while Lawson chipped in two hits in the victory. The Coyotes (9-7,4-4 CSAA) play again on Friday at home against Chippewa Hills. Vestaburg 8, Pine River 7 VESTABURG\u00a0- The Pine River softball team suffered a nonconference loss to Vestaburg on Wednesday, falling 8-7 after a late rally from the home team.\u00a0 Alexis Stokely took the pitching loss for the Bucks, giving up 12 hits in six innings of work with five strikeouts and two walks.\u00a0 Vestaburg took an early 5-0 lead through three innings, but the Bucks came back with six runs in the fourth to take a 6-5 lead. The Bucks added one more in the fifth but Vestaburg scored three in the bottom of the seventh to seal the 8-7 victory.\u00a0 Taylor Warner and Jenny Wickens both had two RBIs for the Bucks in the loss while Jenna Johnson added a double and an RBI and Alyssa Johnson chipped in an RBI single.\u00a0 "What a game. Vestaburg came ready to play and we did too," Pine River coach Laura Mumby said. "It was great to see our kids come back from a 5-0 deficit. They showed a lot of heart (Wednesday) and that makes me proud." The Bucks return to action Friday at Evart.
