REED CITY — Jules Griffin has one year of softball under her belt as a Reed City varsity pitcher and can’t wait for her sophomore season to start next spring. Griffin is coming off a busy summer in which she pitched for Reed City in a Mount Pleasant League and also performed for a Diamonds team out of Grand Rapids. She pitched and played outfield for both teams. “I feel I got a lot of improvement from summer ball,” Griffin said. “You meet a lot of people when you play on a travel team like (Diamond). I built a lot of relationships along with improving my game.” On pitching, Griffin worked on her changeups and on other pitches to get more movement and speed on the ball. Griffin is playing volleyball this fall and will play on a Reed City team in the Grand Rapids leagues. She mentioned that her freshman season on the varsity last spring “was little rough with ups and downs. It was my first experience on varsity. It was a little different. Overall, it helped me improve a lot. “My hitting was very rough during the spring time. I worked on it a lot this summer and it’s gotten better.” Her offseason work “will help a lot next spring,” Griffin said.
