REED CITY\u00a0- \u00a0The emphasis on summer softball is improving individual skills and becoming better acquainted with one's future teammates. But Reed City's summer softball team, the Rage, has also been enjoying plenty of success. Reed City ended the Local Area Teams (LAT) League season with two more wins last Wednesday to extend its winning streak to five games. The team was 5-0 for the week. "All around this week, it was the team," said Reed City coach Roger Steig. "We're pretty young. For a lot of these girls, it's the first time playing with each other. It took us a couple of weeks to get adjusted. They're really playing well." The Rage opened with a 12-2 win over Manton in five innings and won 11-5 over Cadillac in six innings at Bristol Field. Against Manton, Julianne Griffin went all five innings, fanning eight, walking six and giving up three hits. Griffin and Holly Rolston had two hits each. Ashley Andres, Lindsey Greer and Olivia Lawson had one hit apiece. Lawson pitched the first four innings of the second game, striking out one and walking four. Maddie Morgan had two hits while Greer, Griffin, Rolston, Skiler Brigham and Devin Willard all had one. After getting rained out for a couple of weeks, Reed City was able to play five doubleheaders in three weeks. "The LAT League gives you opportunities," Steig said. "This week was true testimony to what this league can do for your kids." The summer is set to end next week with a twinbill Monday at Tri County and a doubleheader July 31 at home with Montabella. Both doubleheaders start at 5 p.m.
