REED CITY - The Reed City Coyotes\u00a0entertain Manistee next Monday to close the boys regular season. Earlier this week, the Coyotes, 1-13, were home with Big Rapids. Monday at Custer, they lost 2-1 to Mason County Eastern. The host Cardinals scored in the first half for a 1-0 lead. Reed City tied it in the second half with a penalty kick from Quinton Kichak. The goalkeeper stopped the initial shot but Kichak booted it in for the 1-1 tie. MCE scored on a penalty kick with 20 minutes left in the game. "I was very pleased even though we didn't get the win," said Reed City coach Matt Webster. "We had the opportunity. A lot of games, we haven't been in them. It was exciting to have a chance." Troy Giese was goalkeeper for Reed City. Lakeview defeated Reed City 8-0 in the season opener at Lakeview. But Tuesday, Sept. 24, it was closer with the Wildcats taking a 3-0 lead at halftime and prevailing 4-0. "We're getting better," Webster said. "We're getting better at passing and through the midfield. We're working on trying to get some goals on so we had a little offensive pressure which relieves our defense a little bit. We're making those small steps of improvement." Ricky Harvey scored Lakeview's first goal 16 minutes into the game. Eleven minutes later, Nate Davis' goal made it 2-0. Jonathan Hansen scored the third goal later in the half. Evan Saxton scored in the second half. "They've definitely made some improvements," said Lakeview coach Chris Smith. "It was early in the season when we played them. We have couple of guys with small injuries we were able to rest tonight and get some young kids playing time. We're happy the way things went."
