REED CITY — The Reed City girls basketball team is back in the thick of its Central State Activities Association Gold Division schedule. The Coyotes earlier this week were home against Grant in league play. They have conference games Friday at Big Rapids and Tuesday at Central Montcalm. The Big Rapids game is a doubleheader with the varsity boys. The girls tip off at 5:30 p.m. “I don’t know much about Grant,” Reed City coach Brian Koopman said. “I watched Big Rapids play and they’re an improved team. It’s going to be a tough challenge for us.” Fremont built an 18-12 halftime lead and defeated Reed City 35-23 on Tuesday, Jan. 6, in nonleague action. “It wasn’t a bad game,” Koopman said. “I thought we hustled hard. The second half, we kind of fell apart for a stretch and they got in a run. It’s one of those things where we have a moment or two where teams make a run at us and we give up a little bit. Hopefully we can get those things changed. We’re young, we keep working hard.” Hannah Price led the Coyotes with 13 points. “She had four steals and played very hard for us and did a nice job,” Koopman said. “Hannah is the only that does the bulk of handling the guard position for us. She’s steady.” Megan Donley had three points. “The young mistakes we keep making we don’t seem to be getting better at,” Koopman said. “I’m waiting for a breakout game where things can click and go together for us. That hasn’t happened yet. The kids are working hard and they have good attitudes. We just keep plugging away here.” The Coyotes fell to 0-7 overall.
