REED CITY \u2014 Reed City\u2019s baseball team split with White Cloud on Friday in Central State Activities Association action, losing the first game 4-3 but winning the rematch 8-4. Codie Strach took the loss in the first game on the mound despite fanning 15 batters and throwing a five-hitter. Trevor Mund, Strach, Josh Justin and Dillon Kichak had two hits apiece. Justin had two RBIs. Justin was the winning pitcher in the second game. Repo sparked the offense with three hits and two RBI. Mike Buss and Mund had a hit and RBI. Earlier in the week, the Coyotes lost 14-5 and 11-1 at Chippewa Hills on May 10 \u201cChippewa Hills is a quality ballclub,\u201d said Reed City coach Scott Shankel. \u201cThose kids can hit the ball. We had one bad inning in each game. We made some bad plays in the field (in the first game). A couple of bad innings, but we let it get to us.\u201d Repo and Evan Stieg had key RBI singles in the first game. Strach took the pitching loss in the second game. Stieg had an RBI single. \u201cThe second game, we got our bat on the ball better and ran the bases better,\u201d Shankel said. \u201cWe\u2019re coming. We\u2019re struggling with the hitting part of it right now. We have to get everybody on the same page.\u201d Reed City plays Cadillac 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Fifth\/Third Park in Comstock Park. Reed City plays in the Cadillac Invitational on Saturday. SOFTBALL Reed City\u2019s softball team split with Chippewa Hills on May 10 in CSAA action, losing the first game 5-4 and winning the second 18-9. RC had a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the sixth. Courtney Morgan was the losing pitcher. Emma Lockhart and Morgan both had run-scoring hits. In the second game, Reed City scored 11 runs the first two innings. Kalee Hensel and Sam Bonnett had three hits apiece for Reed City while Amanda Steig and Sydney Arnold had two hits apiece. At home Friday against White Cloud, the Coyotes lost the first game 9-8 and won the second game 12-3. The losing pitcher in the opener, was Morgan, who allowed seven hits and fanned six while walking three. Getting two hits each were Morgan, Sam McDonald and Alex Baughan. Amanda Steig, Lockhart, Arnold, Ally Stieg, Taylor Steig and Bonnett had one hit. In the second game, McDonald was the winning pitcher. She allowed seven hits and struck out six. Amanda Steig, Morgan, McDonald, Arnold and Baughan had two hits apiece. Taylor Steig added a hit. \u201cWe hit the ball well,\u201d RC coach Roger Steig said. \u201cWe went into the seventh inning ahead 7-4 but gave up five runs the top of the seventh to lose the game. Tuesday night against Chippewa Hills, we did the same thing.\u201d Reed City is 10-8 overall and 6-6 in the CSAA.
