REED CITY\u00a0- The Reed City-Evart 11-12-year-old Little League baseball travel team was able to post its first win of the summer 4-3, over Tri-County North on Monday at Roth Field. Tri-County North consists of players from Hesperia, Newaygo and White Cloud. Reed City-Evart scored two runs in the first and two in the second. Tri-County North scored its three runs in the fifth. Gavin Wirth pitched four scoreless innings for Reed City and recorded eight strikeouts. Calvin Rohde also pitched. Danny Witbeck retired the side in the bottom of the sixth and final inning. Peyton Hansen, Price and Wirth had hits for Reed City, which received several walks. "There wasn't a lot of hitting," Reed City-Evart coach Mark Sochocki said. "It was a close tight ballgame with good defense and good pitching." Reed City started its tournament season last week with a 10-4 loss to White Lake. On Wednesday of last week, Reed City lost 14-4 to Roosevelt Park. Against White Lake, Wirth was the starting pitcher. "He pitched a very good ballgame," Sochocki said. "They were a pretty tough opponent." Witbeck walked twice and scored once. Hansen had two hits and two RBIs. Against Roosevelt Park, Witbeck was the starting pitcher. Cody Kailing pitched in relief. "We made some errors and gave up a fair amount of unearned runs," Sochocki said. "We were competitive, but made a few errors and gave up a few more runs than we probably should have." Reed City-Evart was scheduled to play Reeths Puffer on Tuesday. Any additional games would be announced later. "It's great to pick up a win after playing two tough teams," Sochocki said. Reed City has several players from the team that won the 9-10-year-old district division last season. 9-10-year division The 9-10-year-old Reed City-Evart traveling team, coached by Brian Cass, lost 10-0 to Muskegon-Oakridge in tournament action Monday. Pierce Johnson hit a triple for Reed City-Evart. Reed City-Evart plays Big Rapids at home Wednesday.
