REED CITY -- Reed City girls were second and the boys were third on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Newaygo in CSAA Gold cross country action. For the Reed City boys, Ryan Allen was 10th (17:47.0), Anthony Kiaunis was 11th (17:52.1), Izaiah Lentz was 21st (19:15.8), Ty Kailing 25th (19:48.6), and Elijah Lentz was 30th (20:06.9). For the girls, Abbigail Kiaunis was first (20:05.1), Claudia Francke 10th (22:42.8), Nora Smoes 12th (22:49.6), Paige Lofquist 16th (23:21.0), Olivia Lewis 22nd (23:58.6), and McKenna Miller was 23rd (23:59.5). "I thought we ran well but Fremont was better today," Reed City coach Rich Saladin said. "It's a difficult course with a really tough first mile of hills. Abbie led start to finish and was really determined today. Claudia (Francke) set a season record. We just need to work on getting faster and moving up some slots. "The boys raced really well. We moved up considerably from our first conference meet. Ty Kailing was outstanding today. I thought all of the freshman boys (Allen, Kiaunis, Lentz, Lentz) really improved from our first conference meet." The Coyotes compete at the Chris Grabowski Memorial Invite at Manistee on Thursday. "We still have room to grow and goals before us, " said co-coach Susan Saladin. " It's great to continue to see the improvement across the board."
