LEROY \u00a0- Hailey Gunther has one season left competing for Pine River track as a thrower, but her agenda is already set for next year, Last week the Pine River senior signed a national letter of intent to attend and participate in track and field at Siena Heights. Her career best for shot put is 27-5 and for discus is 79-0. She's gunning for a berth in the state finals this year. Gunther's looking for 90 feet in discus and 30 in the shot put. "I've been doing more exercising and a bunch of stuff to get better," she said. Gunther said she started receiving materials from Adrian, which initially spurred her interest in college track. "I looked into the other colleges down there," she said. "Siena was also down there. It's small and interesting. I like it there." Gunther said she'll be receiving academic and athletic aid from Siena. It's her fourth year of throwing on the high school level. When she was a sophomore, she started thinking about a college career. It's her hopes to major in psychology. "During the winter we do indoor track and we work on stuff," she said. "Sometimes we go to indoor meets." College track offers other throws like the javelin and hammer throw, and Gunther suggested she might do more than just the shot and discus on the next level. "Our program is doing big things," said Siena Heights assistant track coach Katherine Dirksen. "We're a young team."
