LEROY - Alexis Stokely is in her second year as setter for the Pine River volleyball team and remains a critical part of the squad. Stokely and her teammates prepared heavily during the offseason for the 2013 schedule. "This summer we were in Traverse City every Monday," Stokely said. "There's a league that had about 20 teams. We played six schools. it prepared us pretty well." Pine River was a semifinalist earlier this month at its own invitational. "I'm pretty confident right now," Stokely said. "We're young, but we're inexperienced and I feel that we play well together." As for her own performance, "it's been a roller coaster for sure," Stokely said. "I have good days and bad days. I need my team to support me with that" Confidence, Stokely said, is the key for having nothing but good days. The team's passing "has improved a ton" and that aspect of the Bucks attack is beneficial to Kelsey in her own role. Kelsey is looking to improve on her defense. Looking ahead, the Bucks hope to do well in their district, but will have to contend with Beal City, which has moved up to Class C. "We'll have to play at our level and not get down," Kelsey said. "Sometimes we have a tendency to get down and not get up. If we stay up, I know we can do it."
