LEROY -- Manton has been a girls basketball power in the Highland Conference all season and showed it again on Wednesday to spoil Pine River's regular-season home finale with a 52-22 victory. The Rangers rolled to a 17-6 lead after the first quarter and 32-12 at halftime Payton Fulmerhouser scored a reserve side layup to open the third quarter for the Bucks. Molly Lane scored inside for the Rangers. Abby Shepler scored moments later for a 38-14 lead. Lane and Abby Brown scored later for a 42-14 lead. It was 47-15 going into the fourth. The Bucks had a 7-5 scoring edge in the final quarter. Pine River ends the regular season at 5-11 in the Highland and 6-14 overall. "They're a good solid team," Pine River coach Paula Justin said. "We struggled a lot under their pressure. They forced a lot." Manton ends the regular season at 14-2 in the league and 18-2 overall for second place behind league champ Lake City, whose only loss was to Morley Stanwood. "We've done better than last year so that's pretty good," freshman Madi Sparks said. "I think we've played pretty well." "We've been playing well lately," Justin said. "I thought we played a little better tonight than the last time we faced them." Manton had a home 64-17 win over Pine River earlier in the season. Madi Sparks scored seven points for the Bucks while Hailey Wanstead had five, Fulmerhouser had four, Chelsea Wanstead three, Kim Hill two and Kendra Montague one.
