LEROY\u00a0- Girls basketball action for Pine River and other area girls basketball teams tipped off this week, but not before a busy slate of scrimmages during the Thanksgiving holiday. The Bucks are home Monday against Morley Stanwood. They opened the season Tuesday at home against Reed City. The Bucks were at Big Rapids on Tuesday to play the host school and Greenville, plus Shepherd. "We've got things to work on definitely," Pine River coach Shawn Ruppert said. "We did a few things well, just not enough. We have to get better all around, but we will. I thought we rebounded better as the scrimmage went by. We got better aggressively. We got more comfortable as we got more time in." Ruppert hopes to see improvement in making more easy shots. "But that's from it being early on," she said. "We have to look at mismatches a little better and be a little more patient on offense. I thought we were sloppy with passes. We have to come to the ball better." Julie and Kierra Justin plus Anna Lindquist are expected to be among the key contributors for the Bucks along with sophomores KayLee Goodman and Selma Barnett, plus freshman Logan Powell. The third and final preseason scrimmage was Wednesday at Cadillac.
