LEROY\u00a0\u2014 Logan Powell is only a freshman but has been having a strong season for the Pine River Bucks. A major highlight this season was a win over non-league rival Reed City. Communication was a key to that victory, Powell recalled, adding that it was one of her team\u2019s best performances.\u00a0 \u201cWe work on a lot of our basic skills, passing, getting the good set and finishing with a very good hit,\u201d she said. Powell said her teammates have welcomed her onto the varsity. \u201cIt\u2019s been kind of nerve racking to be a freshman coming in with a lot of seniors,\u201d she said. \u201cYou just have to keep going and keep trying. Going from the eighth grade to varsity, it\u2019s faster.\u201d Powell has been a setter. \u201cI kind of hopped into it as a freshman,\u201d she said. \u201cI did a little bit of it in eighth grade.\u201d A \u201cpositive attitude\u201d is essential in being a good setter, Powell said. \u201cI\u2019ve had a couple of people come in and help me and give me a better idea on where to put the ball.\u201d Powell has also been working on other skills. \u201cWe can do a lot better,\u201d she said. \u201c(Reed City) was one of our best games yet. All we can do is improve.\u201d Pine River is home Tuesday against Evart.
