LEROY - Pine River's football team ended the season with a 46-32 home loss to McBain on Friday. The Bucks (3-6, 2-4) fell behind 22-16 heading into the half and McBain outscored Pine River 24-16 in the second half to secure the victory. Pine River's Skyler Nelson went 15-for-30 for 204 yards, two touchdowns and an interception through the air while also running for a score. "Overall our offense played pretty well," said Pine River coach Terry Martin. "Defensively, we gave up way too many plays. (Zach Stephan) beat us too many times in the game, both on the ground and in the air." Jeff Gross had 94 yards rushing while Brandon Fulks added 68 yards on the ground and two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving. Fulks caught four passes for 89 yards. Greg Park had six catches for 68 yards. "We moved the ball pretty well offensively," Martin said. "We ended up two other times in the red zone and weren't able to finish it off. We were inside the 5-yard-line and another time on the 17-yard-line. We had 32 points and two drives (that ended) in the red zone. Kyle Nixon, Dominic Garcia and Chase Morrison all had 10 tackles apiece while Gross tallied nine tackles and a sack. McBain, 5-4, was able to get into the playoffs with the win. "I think our kids were pretty well motivated to win that game too," Martin said. "It was our last home game and was our senior night. We had two straight wins. We wanted to finish out the season on a three-game run. Our kids were motivated to win but it just didn't work out." Pioneer Sports Editor Martin Slagter also contributed to this report.
