LEROY\u00a0-\u00a0Pine River won the three-team girls blue division at Saturday's Chippewa Hills Invitational. For Pine River, Devyn Powell was fifth in 20:40.12, Cheyanna Rizor 14th in 2:09.79, Alyssa Geer 20th in 22:41.30, Julia Lucas 41st in 23:42.52 and Jasmine Blackrick 77th in 25:26.31. For the boys, Pine River won the blue division, Evart took the gold division and Chippewa Hills was fourth in the red division. Ben Rigling and Chris Terburgh of Pine River were one and two in the blue division and eighth and 20th overall in 18:01.58 and 18:17.25. Also for Pine River, Elliott VanDreumel was 50th in 19:31.08, Tony Moore 62nd in 20:06.30 and Jordan Stone 64th in 20:09.62. "It was a nice day for running temperature wise," said Pine River coach Ross Vrieze. "That kind of helped us out. Alyssa Geer ran a personal best. It was nice to see her come and run closer to our No. 2 runner. We are fighting some illnesses. We actually had a couple of runners not run, So it was a surprise to do as well as we did." For the boys, "looking at our places, it was pretty tight compared to the other schools, that was a good showing," Vrieze said. "The girls too. That's the tightest they've ever been." Pine River will run Saturday at the Grand Traverse resort in regional action with hopes of qualifying for the state finals Nov. 2. "I 'd like to send one team to \u00a0state. The boys are ranked fourth (in the region) and the top three go," Vrieze said. "They've got some work ahead of them.The girls are ranked fifth or sixth. Hopefully they'll do better than the rankings show us." Evart's boys cross country team won the third and final Highland Conference jamboree Tuesday (Oct. 15) at Beal City to wrap up the league title. Evart was first in the eight-team field with 29, followed by Beal City with 50 and Pine River with 67. For Pine River, Ben Rigling was fifth in 17:43.9, Chris Terburgh ninth in 18:02.5, Derek Hartline 13th in 18:30.4, Elliott VanDreumel 18th in 18:43.9 and Tony Moore 22nd in 18:54.3. In the girls race, Beal City was first at 27, Pine River third at 97 and Evart seventh at 156. Manton was second at 91. Devyn Powell was third for Pine River in 20:16.7 to lead the Bucks while Cheyanna Rizor was 14th in 22:24.8, Alyssa Geer third in 23:13, Julia Lucas 26th in 23:36.2 and Jasmine Blackrick 32nd in 24:08.9. "Alyssa Geer ran her personal best time," said Pine River coach Ross Vrieze.
