REED CITY \u00a0- Maddie Morgan will be in the seventh grade this school year at Reed City, but is already showing her pitching potential for the future. Morgan had some impressive stints in Local Area Teams (LAT) League action for Reed City this summer. She was the winning pitcher in both games for her team recently in a sweep over Pine River. "I don't really get nervous," she smiled. "I did it last year too." Morgan was referring to the Mount Pleasant League in which her team competed a year ago. Her older sister, Courtney Morgan, the starting pitcher on the 2012 Reed City state quarterfinalist team, has been assisting coach Roger Steig with the summer squad. Maddie has been pitching six years and said she's similar to her sister. Maddie's favorite pitch has been her fastball. Her speed has increased every season. She's been working on her changeup this summer. Offensively, Morgan has also been happy with her contact hitting. She's been happy with how she's been able to blend in with the rest of the team, mostly high school girls, during the summer. Morgan still has two years before getting to the high school level and wants to work on a few things for Reed City softball. "Snapping" her wrist is something Morgan wants to improve upon as a pitcher in upcoming seasons. The summer season for Morgan and the team ended Thursday at home with Montabella.
