EVART — Scott Martin had a spring track and field season he won’t forget. He’s already looking forward to the spring of 2018 when he’ll be a senior for the Evart Wildcats. In his junior season Martin was seventh in the high jump at the state final at 6-feet, 1-inch. His personal record came earlier in the season at 6-6. He also had 6-8 in practice. He was hoping to challenge for first place at the state meet, but was unable to get the jump he wanted. He had a strong year in the long jump with a personal record of 19-8 ½. Martin was on some relay teams that had top-notch success. He was joined by Cody Pritchard, Kyle Stokes and Danny Griffin to take first in the regional and Highland Conference meet, and fourth at the state meet in the 400-meter relay. The same foursome also won the regionals and league meet in the 800 relay. It was his second year of Evart. He ran track at Inland Lakes as a freshman. “Good form” is the key to being a good high jumper, Martin said.
