LEROY \u2014 Pine River has gotten out to a 1-5 start in boys basketball action and the Bucks are looking for more success in upcoming games. It\u2019s a young Pine River team this year with players like junior Elijah Lewis having some of the team\u2019s lone experience. \u201c(Last season) went pretty good,\u201d he said. \u201cThere were a lot of experienced guys and we went pretty far. We won the district championship. It was really exciting.\u201d Last season, Lewis usually came off the bench. \u201cWe had a good starting five and gave it a lot of energy,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s definitely a lot of new faces (this season). There\u2019s only three of us that played last year.\u201d Lewis is expected to see plenty of action as a guard. \u201cI\u2019ll play a lot of defense looking for guys who are open to score,\u201d he said. Lewis has exhibited his quickness in various sports including track and football. He\u2019s hoping to show more of the same on the basketball court. \u201cI\u2019m really good to get off the dribble and get to the hole and score quick baskets when we need it,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have a lot of big guys this year. We\u2019ll be really big and have a lot of speed with our guards and we\u2019ll try to get used to that. It\u2019s going to take awhile to get in the groove of things. When we get there, it will be a good season,\u201d Lewis said. The Bucks are at Lake City on Thursday.
