REED CITY — Kyle Lawrence is off to a strong start at 103 pounds for the Reed City wrestling team. The Coyotes senior is in his fourth varsity season. Winning a gold medal at a Lakeview JV tournament last season has been among his highlights. He also was at 103 pounds last year. He entered the winter break at 10-4. Some of those wins are on forfeits but, Lawrence said, one of his best matches came against Tawas on a pin. When he’s on the mat, Lawrence usually looks for the leg move. He’s looking to improve on his leg work. Lawrence was 4-1 for Reed City prior to the break at the South Haven Invitational and helped the team take third place. His goal this season is to get a gold medal at a varsity tournament. “I’ll need to work hard,” he said, adding that the Coyotes as a team are young “but we’re looking pretty strong.” Lawrence and his teammates spent a few days at the school during the winter break getting ready for the rest of the schedule. Reed City will be wrestling this Wednesday at Grant against the host school and Central Montcalm in Central State Activities Association Gold Division action. The Coyotes are also at the Gladwin Invitational on Saturday. Reed City will have two home appearances this season: Jan 30 with its home individual invitational and Feb. 3 in a dual with Whitehall.
