REED CITY \u00a0- Jon Green will be among the athletes the Reed City Coyotes will be looking to score some key points on the boys track team this season. Green, a junior, was among the promising performers last season, who went to the state finals in the 4 by 100 relay, that just barely missed the school record, a mark that Green hopes to beat this season with the three other teammates. Andre Jones and Colin Hatfield are back, along with Green, in that relay this season. This season, Green is looking at five events with the 4 by 1 and 4 by 2 relays, the 100, shot put and discus. In the shot put, Green is looking to hit close to 50 feet and close to the school record of 144 feet in the discus. His best throw has been a 130. "I really didn't practice (the discus) much last year," Green said. "I was more focused on running." He's looking to spend more time on the throws this season. "I like the discus, I think it's fun," he said. Green ran an 11.5 in the 100 last season. "I'd like to get down to an 11.3, 11.2," Green said. "It will take more cardio, just running more, getting in shape." Of the two relays, Green is hoping for all-state status and a school record in the 4 by 1. "I didn't run the 4 by 2 last year," he said. "We're going to be pretty solid in that I think." Green is usually in the first leg. "I'm pretty good coming out of the blocks," he said. Reed City's first outdoor meet, weather permitting, will be at Lakeview April 16. Following spring break, the next meet is April 12 at Big Rapids. There are no home meets this season. "I think we lost a couple of valuable players, but with some new kids, we'll replace them," Green said.
