BIG RAPIDS -- Terry Getts has been busy with hunting and fishing in recent years and is hoping outdoor activity will pick up very soon. The Big Rapids area resident said he passed up small bucks during the hunting season. "I didn't shoot one," he said. "I shot a small doe. There's a lot of bucks around. That new rule that they have to have four points on side in Mecosta County, a lot of people don't like it while others do. "I had an opportunity to shoot a real dandy but I couldn't hit him. I missed him." Getts is also an avid area ice fisherman and, like other anglers he's waiting for enough ice to have it safe enough to test his skills. "The ice has to be thick enough for a guy my size," he chuckled. "There are people fishing. They've been catching them. I have to have more than two to three inches of ice. I'd like four or five. "I go all over. I fish Morley Pond a lot, and Chippewa Lake. I just fish for bluegills. I expect it to be a good year for fishing."
