EVART - Evart's softball team continued its winning ways with a nonleague sweep over Reed City in nonleague action on Thursday. The first game was 21-4. The second game, 18-3, started out tight and the Wildcats blew it away in the late going. In the first game, Ryenn Baumgardner drove home six runs on three hits. She had a double. Reed City scored four runs in the third. Addy Gray was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats She went three innings and struck out seven. Veronica Lofquist hit a homer. In the second game, Lofquist was the winning pitcher. She allowed three hits while striking out nine. Evart had nine runs in the seventh. Lofquist had a double. Ally Theunick had a homer. It was Theunick's fifth home run of the season. "This one was (memorable)," Theunick said after the Reed City game. "Right before I hit it, they were saying don't hit the high one. But this was high. Then I hit it." Evart had 15 hits for the day. Theunick and Gray had three hits apiece. Evart is 22-5 and is home on Tuesday against Chippewa Hills. Reed City had a hit from Kaylin Goodman in the first game. "Our biggest struggle this year has been base on balls," Reed City coach Roger Steig said. "We walked 11 batters the first game and nine the second game. Our defense has been playing solid." Reed City had three hits the second game from Lily Andres, Hannah Stellin and Kenzie Shoemaker. Isabella Guy was the pitcher for Reed City in both games. Reed City is home with Ludington on Tuesday.
