EVART - Jamin Drake and his Evart football teammates were disappointed Friday with their 46-14 loss to Beal CIty in a battle of 3-0 teams. But they also realize there's five games left and plenty to shoot for in the midway part of the schedule. "We made some good stops but not enough of them," said Drake, a Wildcats linebacker and running back. "We should have done better offensively and defensively." Beal City "is disciplined," Drake said. "They don't lose it when something goes bad. They just keep their cool and stay focused." Coming into the game, the strategy was to play hard and stay focused starting with the very first play, Drake said. Still, it's been a good start for the Wildcats. "We can get back up and look ahead," he said. The message on Marion, 1-3 is that "they have decent athletes and not to take them lightly and definitely be serious about it," Drake added. "We can definitely win the next five games. Lake City will be tough. If go all four quarters, it should be a good game." Defensively, "we have to work on containment," Drake said. "We have to work on pass coverage and keep (the quarterback) in the box, and if he tries running we have to contain him." Evart, with quarterback Jacob Fortune leading the way, continues to have a strong passing attack, but Drake said the Wildcats will keep focusing on improving the running game.
