EVART\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Evart\u2019s cross country team finished third in the Silver Division of the Sparta Invitational on Saturday. Grand Rapids Covenant Christian was first with 41 points while North Muskegon was second at 61 and Evart third at 64. Fowler was fourth at 109. Santana Scott was second at 17:26.51. The first-place runner was Fraser Wilson of Kent City at 17:21.24. Also for Evart, Josh Woods was sixth at 18:00.15, Micah Wetters 15th at 18:59.61, Devin Day 20th at 19:15.96 and Andrew Bengry 33rd at 20:46.45. \u201cThe boys did great,\u201d said Evart coach Kevin Mills. \u201cIt\u2019s pretty consistent times from some of the other meets. It was a great finish for them. Our middle school boys came in second place.\u201d The girls did not have a full team but used three individual runners. Mara VanOrder was 19th in 23:58, Clairese Clark 21st in 23:44.98, Brooklyn Elenbaas 45th in 29:04.31 and Ananna Mooney 51st in 32:25.38. Evart won its only home meet of the season Tuesday (Sept. 9) at Spring Hills Camp with a score of 23 to finish ahead of Farwell at 34 and Harrison at 78. Scott and Woods took the top two spots at 18:23 and 18:35. Wetters and Day were fifth and sixth at 20:15 and 20:37 while Bengry and Niles were 10th and 11th at 22:14 and 23:45. The Evart girls only had three runners and didn\u2019t qualify as a team. Clark was second at 24:20, VanOrder third at 25:11 and Elenbaas fourth at 31:23. \u201cThe guys finished strong again and I was proud of them,\u201d Evart coach Kevin Mills said. \u201cWe\u2019ve had some rusty spots, we just have to sharpen them up and get ready for our conference. It\u2019s going to be close this year in conference.\u201d Evart opened defense of its Highland title Tuesday at McBain and will run this Saturday at Central Lake and Sept. 23 at Mesick.
