EVART \u2013 Logan Hammer and David Zinger will be running the final cross country races of their high school careers and are hoping for banner performances Saturday in the state finals at the Michigan International Speedway. The two Evart seniors are also hoping to help the Evart team have a strong state finals finish. Hammer indicated that the main focus is for a strong team performance at the state meet. \u201cI\u2019m going for my absolute best time,\u201d Hammer said. \u201cI\u2019ll go as hard as possible. I\u2019m hoping to PR by 30 seconds.\u201d To do well on the MIS course, \u201cthere\u2019s always a muddy corner at the end,\u201cHammer said. \u201cYou want to go out harder during your second mile, get though that muddy corner and give everything you\u2019ve got when you get around that corner.\u201d The Wildcats were second at\u00a0 the regionals Saturday at Allendale. \u201cWe all ran well, everyone PRed,\u201d Zinger said. \u201cWe ran our hearts out.\u201d For the state finals, \u201cI want to leave it all out there on the course, it\u2019s my last one,\u201d Zinger said. \u201cIt\u2019s important to have a good start. If you get stuck behind a group, it could be hard to recover from.\u201d Max Hodges, a junior, has been running closely with Hammer and Zinger this season. \u201cIt was cold and wasn\u2019t really windy,\u201d Hodges said. \u201cI went out on my first mile and felt good that day. It was a good finish, too. Right now, I still need to work on my second mile.\u201d Hodges will bid for even a better time at the state meet. It\u2019s his third time at the finals. \u201cRight now, we hope to go down there and do our best,\u201d Hodges said. \u201cWe hope to go down and get more PRs.\u201d.
