EVART - Evart will be home Thursday against Marion in hopes of picking up its first victory of the season. The Wildcats lost 61-30 to Montabella on Monday and fell to 0-16. Montabella had quarter leads of 21-6, 36-16 and 48-18. "We threw up two points in the third quarter," said Evart coach Paul Higgins. "It doesn't help matters when you have those low scoring quarters." Kristin Kullman scored 13 points and Mara VanOrder added eight. On Friday, the Wildcats fell 63-32 to Lake City. They trailed 14-10 after the first quarter but were outscored 21-6 in the second. Lake City outscored Evart 28-16 in the second half "We came out pretty well in the first quarter and they pressured us in the second quarter," said Evart coach Paul Higgins. "That's pretty much where the wheels fell off. The second and third quarter, they put constant pressure on us. That was too much to come back from." VanOrder led Evart with 13 points while Kullman had nine. The Manton girls basketball team kept Evart from getting its first win of the season on Tuesday night, Feb. 4, with a 48-29 verdict. The Wildcats played their second game in two days. VanOrder led the Wildcats with 12 points and Kullman added nine points in the setback. The Wildcats end the regular season next week, playing home with Clare on Monday, at Pine River on Tuesday and at home on Friday (Feb. 21) against McBain. They enter district action the week of Feb. 24 at Beal City.
