EVART -- The Wildcats ended their girls basketball season at 12-10 on Friday after a 50-38 loss to Hart, in the Division 3 district title game. Hart led 8-7 after the first quarter, but trailed Evart, 20-18, at halftime. Hart led 33-32 after the third quarter and outscored Evart 17-6 in the fourth. Skylar Baumgardner had 14 points while Kara Henry had 12 for Evart and Addy Gray had seven. "I was so proud of the effort the girls gave against Hart," Evart coach Matt Tiedt said. "Our defense really held us in the game the way it's done lately against some pretty talented teams. I'm guessing most people didn't have us picked to go to a district final game and if they did, they certainly didn't have it being a one-point game going into the fourth quarter. "They knocked down their free throws to close out the game. That's what a good team does, credit to them. There was a four-minute stretch in the fourth quarter that we went cold and their shots went in." It was Tiedt's first year coaching the team. "We think we made some strides this season, and while I'm disappointed I didn't get it done for the seniors, I know they showed the girls in our program what hard work does for you," he said.
