EVART \u2014 The Evart Wildcats started the 2017 football campaign in winning fashion, defeating the Fremont Packers 39-8 under Friday night lights. Quarterback Carter Pritchard completed 10-of-14 passes for 154 yards and two passing touchdowns. Kyle Stokes had six carries for 93 yards and three touchdowns ,as well as four catches for 71 yards and a score. Billy Conklin carried the ball 14 times for 78 yards and Hunter Maxwell had three receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown. \u201cWe saw some really good things,\u201d Evart coach Pat Craven said. \u201cOur kids played hard and they played fast. Kyle Stokes had a nice game and our kids blocked for him well up front. Carter Pritchard threw the ball well and made great decisions. We\u2019ll have to be better defensively if we want to compete within our conference.\u201d On defense, Josh Dorn had 14 total tackles and Jericho VanScoyoc added eight while Donavin Reagan tallied a sack. The Wildcats jumped out to a 19-0 lead at halftime and matched that intensity in the second half. \u201cI thought they played fast,\u201d Craven said. \u201cWe were explosive on offense today and that\u2019s something we looked to improve on going into this season.\u201d Pritchard showed a steady command of the offense under center. \u201cCarter is a really nice quarterback to have,\u201d Craven said. \u201cHe\u2019s cool under pressure and makes quick decisions. We were able to do some damage through the air today.\u201d Evart hosts Harrison (0-1) on Thursday in non-league action. \u201cThey\u2019re very big and they\u2019re very physical,\u201d Craven said. \u201cWe\u2019ll have to try to match their size and strength with our speed and quickness.\u201d Herald Review sportswriter John Raffel also contributed to this report.
