EVART\u00a0\u2014 Evart\u2019s boys basketball team lost at the buzzer 56-55 to McBain Northern Michigan Christian on Friday in Highland Conference action. Danny Griffin led Evart with 23 points. Robbie Tapling had 15 points. \u201cWe were down by 10 going into the fourth quarter,\u201d Evart coach Kris Morgan said. \u201cWe had the ball with 30 seconds to go. Nolan VanOrder got fouled and hit two free throws. So we ended up taking the lead by one.\u201d With nine seconds to go, NMC called timeout and ran a play. \u201cThey airballed a shot,\u201d Morgan said. \u201cOne of their kids got the ball on a tip and tipped it in, right at the buzzer. Give NMC credit. They played a good game. They made some real tough shots.\u201d Jordan Huizenga had 23 points for NMC. Evart played at McBain Tuesday and is home Thursday with Beal City. Girls basketball Beal City 62, Evart 44 BEAL CITY \u2014 Kristin \u00a0Kullman led Evart with 13\u00a0points, while Allyssa Witbeck added 10 points in Thursday action Beal City\u2019s Jordan Schneider had a\u00a0team-high 23 points. Evart drops to 3-10 overall and 2-6 in\u00a0the Highland Conference. \u201cWe\u2019ve had our good and positive games, but there\u2019s still lots to work on,\u201d Evart coach Paul Higgins said. \u201cOverall, I think we\u2019re making good gains.\u201d Kullman and Mara VanOrder continued to have strong seasons for Evart. \u201cThey\u2019ve been pretty solid,\u201d Higgins said. \u201cMara has been rebounding well and our scoring is picking up a little bit. Kristin had a couple of weeks where she wasn\u2019t playing well but she turned the page last week and played better.
