EVART\u00a0\u2014 Evart\u2019s competitive cheer team took home a second-place trophy in its division on Saturday at the Houghton Lake Invitational. \u201cWe had a pretty good day,\u201d Evart coach Marty Pattee said. Muskegon West Michigan Christian took first place. Round 3 continues to be a strong one for the Wildcats. It\u2019s the round that features mounts. \u201cThat seems to be the round that puts us over the top,\u201d Pattee said. \u201cThe girls keep improving their score. It\u2019s the big game-changer so to speak.\u201d Evart is at districts on Saturday at Holton for Division 4. There will be 12 teams in the district and the top four advance to regionals on Feb. 25. \u201cRight now, we\u2019re rated, of the 12, if you go by the scores of teams, fifth,\u201d Pattee said. \u201cIt depends on how well everyone performs that day and if it\u2019s enough to get us over the hurdle.\u201d Evart cheerleaders are Macey Rich, Dana Vore, Kymberley Morrone, Hannah Moore, Zandrea Geranen, Jordyn Gillis and Morgan Gallinger. BOYS BASKETBALL McBain \u00a073, Pine River 47 LEROY\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Mason Powell scored 18 points and had six rebounds while Hunter Esiline had eight points and six boards for Pine River (6-6, 4-5) in Friday\u2019s loss to No. 1 ranked (Class C) McBain. McBain was up 22-8 after the first quarter, 49-21 at halftime and 63-39 after the third quarter. \u201dThey\u2019re ranked No. 1 in the state,\u201d Pine River coach Brian Goodenow said. \u201cI was pleased with how well our kids played in the second half.\u201d Pine River is at McBain Northern Michigan Christian on Thursday.
