REED CITY \u2014 Local cheer teams are getting ready for district action this weekend. Teams that placed in the top four at their respective meets will advance to the regionals on Feb. 23. All three schools in Osceola County competed at the Houghton Lake Invitational on Saturday. Reed City\u2019s middle school and varsity teams both placed third in Division 3. \u201cWe really improved this week,\u201d said Reed city coach Jen Worden. \u201dWe were able to put in all of our choreography skills. The girls had to step it up. We were able to put in handsprings.\u201d \u201cThey improved their score, That\u2019s what we\u2019re looking for,\u201d Worden said. The districts will be at Houghton Lake. Evart took fourth place in its division. \u201cIt was not our best day,\u201d said Evart coach Marty Pattee. \u201cWe\u2019ve had days with no practice without having school. That really hurts. The kids will rally back. They\u2019ll do really well.\u201d For Pine River, \u201cat Houghton Lake the girls had their best Round 1 performance,\u201d said Pine River coach Tiffany Lindquist. \u201cThey didn\u2019t do well because we had a girl out sick. Wednesday, they were at Marion and had their best overall competition with a 538. We\u2019re slowly improving.\u201d Evart\u2019s and Pine River districts will be in Shelby. \u201cHopefully, we\u2019ll score the way we should and make it through,\u201d Pattee said.
