CHASE \u2013 Kalub Robinson of Chase struck it rich while hunting in Lake County on Sunday with his compound bow. Robinson bagged a 9-point buck with an approximate 17 1\/2-inch rack span. Robinson, 16. while hunting on his family property, that he found, a good spot and saw some does and later saw a spikehorn, then the 9-pointer came out. \u201cIt looked like they were going to fight,\u201d Robinson said. \u201cThere was a gap in the trees there.\u201d Robinson focused on the buck and guessed that he was about 30 yards away. \u201cI pulled the trigger,\u201d he said. \u201cI thought I made a good shot. He ran about 120 yards. I went and found him.\u201d The spikehorn took off as soon as Robinson made his shot. \u201cI was really excited,\u201d he said. \u201cI called my dad. I was hanging onto the tree so I didn\u2019t fall out while I was talking to him.\u201d Robinson simply seemed to be in the right place at the right time. \u201cI saw a spike, two does (and the buck) within probably 15 or 20 minutes,\u201d he said. Robinson recalls shooting a 6-point buck in 2009. But bagging the 9-pointer on Sunday was his biggest thrill as a hunter \u201cby far.\u201d He\u2019s also a firearm hunter. The rifle season starts this Thursday. \u201cI hope to fill my tag and end my season,\u201d he said.
