CLARE – Reed City picked up another win with a 39-32 non league verdict over Clare on Monday.

The Coyotes had quarter leads of 6-5, 18-10 and 22-16.

Max Hammond had 17 points followed by Xavier Allen with 10 points.

“Clare played a trapping zone and we adjusted but struggled to knock down shots,” Reed City coach Brennan Walsh said. “Ty hit a big three from the corner late in the fourth to push the lead to five. Our defense was good.

“We were aggressive and made plays when we needed to. It feels good to win back-to-back close games. Hopefully we can get some momentum going into next week.”

Reed City is 11-8 and home with Central Montcalm on Friday.

McBain 70, Pine River 41

MCBAIN – McBain clinched outright possession of the Highland Conference title with this Monday win. They had quarter leads of 17-13, 35-16 and 50-30.

Austin Dean and Xander Martin had 11 points apiece for Pine River.

“McBain is on top of our league for a reason,” Pine River coach Brian Goodenow said. “Their size just killed us. They got second and third shot opportunities way too often. Our effort has to be a lot better, especially against very good teams.

“Xander gave us a nice game off the bench. He has a good shooting stroke and it was nice to see him knock down a few threes. We have no time to feel sorry for ourselves with another game Tuesday (at home vs. Lakeview).”

Pine River is 3-10 in the league and 4-13 overall.
