LEROY – It was host Evart vs. Pine River for the Division 4 district title on Wednesday with the Bucks prevailing in the title match.

Evart secured a 55-24 win over Manton in the first round but lost to Pine River 42-27 in the title match.

“We started off with Manton and got some good wins from Ethan Conk, Alannah Bentley, Owen Craven, Jaxon Craven, Steven Gascoigne, Joseph Kunin, Riley Ransom, Cole Hopkins and Landon Babb,” Evart coach Ben Bryant said. “In the final with Pine River, we knew it was going to be close just like our first dual was with them. Our guys wrestled real tough, but not everything went our way.”

Wrestlers picking up wins for Evart were Conk, Michael Lodholtz, Ransom (bumped up to 190), Hopkins (bumped up to 215), and Alex Burhans.

But it was a night to Fear the Deer.

Pine River defeated Farwell in a first-round match to go onto the finals.

“We saw Evart earlier in the year and pulled out a 10-point victory at home winning a handful of close matches to do so,” Pine River coach Terry Martin said. “We knew it would come down to a couple key matches and thanks to the coin flip we were able to dictate those matches and take advantage.

“Zach Rizor had a huge win for us at 150 pounds and Javen Wanstead also had a big win in a match up they were able to flip on us. The entire line up had strong performances in both wins and losses by limiting bonus points.”

Two-match winners for the Bucks were Bryant Wing (106), Jordan Nelson (120), Jericho Holmes (132), Damien Jackson (138), Scott Slocum (144), Ryder Holmes (150) and Javen Wanstead (175).

Individual districts are in Manton Saturday. Team regionals are at home next Wednesday.
