Hammonds lead Reed City girls and boys to victories

Morgan nets 23 points while Max scores 24

HOWARD CITY – Reed City freshman Morgan Hammond exploded for 23 points on Friday to lead Reed City to a 56-23 Central State Activities Association win over Tri County.

Reed City was up 15-5 after the first quarter, 27-7 at halftime and 44-18 after the third.

Molly Bowman and Kyleigh Weck had nine points for the Coyotes.

Hammond, coach Tim Beilfuss said, “knocked down shots. She finished with six threes. She rebounded the ball well and got to the free-throw line. She’s been working a lot on her shooting in practice. It adds another three for us to go along with Molly and Kyleigh.

“Everybody was able to get into the scorebook tonight. We were able to give some kids some minutes. We got Natalie Albright back to give us another body. That was nice to get her back and get her legs underneath of her, coming back from a broken nose.”

Reed City played seven players Friday night.

“I took nine players, I take two JV players with me just for emergencies,” Beilfuss said. “We’ve got seven on varsity

“We opened it up in the first half. We put pressure on Tri County. Tri County played hard. We were able to force some turnovers. When you put the ball in the basket, that makes it much easier.”

Reed City plays at Big Rapids on Tuesday.

The Cardinals “are playing great basketball right now,”  Beilfuss said. “We have a tough matchup on Tuesday. They’re beating good teams.”
