REED CITY – Reed City City Tim Beilfuss likes the way some of his younger players have been learning this season, especially sophomore guard Casey Terryn.

It’s her second varsity season.

“Last year was a good one,” Terryn said. “I didn’t get a lot of playing time. We went 9-11 and I got playing time to get experience for this year.”

Prior to a recent injury, Terryn had been starting. There’s more pressure on a starter than coming off the bench, she said.

“I have to look to score the ball more and take care of it,” she said, adding the 3-pointer is probably her best shot. ”I don’t shoot it a lot. You have to use your legs on that shot.”

“Casey Terryn was having a solid season for us until her recent injury,” Beilfuss said. “She is our primary ball handler, so losing her took some adjustment for our team, but the girls have been figuring it out in her absence. She has missed the last five games and we are unsure if she will be able to return this season. She has put in a lot of work since the end of last season to really improve her game.

“Being only a sophomore we have high hopes for her future individually and the team's future as well.”

Terryn prides herself on her free-throw shooting.

“I put a lot of time into it this summer,” she said.

The key for her on defense, Terryn said, “is not letting them drive the middle on us. We play good man and zone.”

The Coyotes play at Tri County on Friday and are home with Big Rapids on Tuesday.

“The key is making sure we work together as a team and we all score,” Terryn said.

Terryn’s only sport is basketball and she enjoys every minute of it.

“The time you put into it shows,” she said. “If you work hard, it will show on the court.”
