EVART – Alannah Bentley’s sophomore season at 126 pounds for the Evart Wildcats has been a good one.

It’s her second varsity season.

“It went about the same last year,” Bentley said. “I was one match away from going to state for girls individuals.”

Bentley took second and third place at various tournaments, including one at Standish Sterling.

“I haven’t done as well against the boys since they have a lot more muscle,” she said, noting she would be in girls regionals during the present postseason with the hopes of going to the state finals.

“I’ll need a lot more cardio work,” she said. “I try to go for low doubles. I feel like I’m better at top work than anything else.”

She has been one of two girls on this year’s Evart wrestling team. Dakota Ives, a sophomore at 132 pounds, is the other girl.

Bentley’s only sport is wrestling although she indicated she might do track.

“Wrestling is a physical sport,” she said. “I’m matched with people who are my size, and my skill level.”

“Allanah has really improved throughout the season,” Evart coach Ben Bryant said. “She has put herself in a good place mentally and physically.”

During the offseason, Bentley will continue to work out to improve her wrestling skills and get ready for her junior and senior seasons.
