Wrestlers getting ready to open seasons next month

REED CITY  —  It may be a holiday weekend but the Reed City gym will feature a unique event on Saturday night

The Coyote wrestling squad will have its intra-squad Red and Black scrimmage at that time. Action starts at 6 p.m.

“That’s kind of like tryouts for the starting lineup,” Steig said. “I do that every year.”

Reed City opens the season Dec. 11 with a home quad.

The Coyotes were at Lakewood on Saturday for a preseaon scrimmage.

“it went really well,” said Steig. “Two boys went 5-0 at the scrimmage.”

He was referring to Adam Kehr and Thayne Stieg.

Steig has 22 on his roster. “Basketball just had their cuts so we’re hoping to pick up a couple   from that,” Steig said.

The Bucks open at Sanford Meridian Dec. 7 and will have their own home quad Dec. 11. Coach Tim Jones said he has 34 on his roster.

“Right now it’s early and everybody is enjoying it,” Jones said. “Hopefully, we’ll hang onto everybody.”

Upper middleweights is an area where the Bucks are looking to fill with competitive wrestlers.
