Woods pursues strong finish to his career
EVART — Nathan Woods is in his last few weeks of what’s been a glittering cross country career for Evart.
Woods has competed in the state finals the last three years and is hoping to get a fourth try when the meet is conducted on Nov. 3 at Michigan International Speedway.
His personal record came earlier this season at the Benzie Invitational with a 16:47.7.
“It’s been going pretty well,” Woods said. “We ran at Benzie where our regional is and almost everybody ran a PR.”
Woods is hoping to be under 16:30.
“We have to keep doing what we’re doing,” he said. “We need some good workouts.”
Woods said he’s usually the strongest in his second mile.
“I gain a lot of ground there,” he said. “I always need to improve my finish.”
Evart will run at the Chippewa Hills Invitational on Saturday.
“We have a lot of strong people,” Woods said. “Parker Henry has been injured. If he’s healthy, he would have been one of our top five. Hopefully, we’ll be top five in our regional.”
