Wirth reflects on strong fall sport season

REED CITY — It was another strong two-sport season for Brandon Wirth during the fall.

Wirth ran cross country and played soccer for Reed City.

“I think it’s been going well,” he said after a cross country meet during the year. “We didn’t quite get a (full) team together, but the individuals on our team are doing quite well. They’re trying to be the best they can be.”

Wirth’s ultimate goal was to get a 17:45 at regionals. His best was 17:57 at Lake City.

“I think I’ve got to work more towards the end of the race rather than at the beginning so I can have enough to give it my all at the end for the final sprint,” Wirth said.

For the Reed City soccer team Wirth also was among the Coyotes’ best performers all season.

As a cross country freshman, Wirth was 62nd in his very first meet at Chippewa Hills in 19:51.2. He would later clock an 18:40.1 for his best of the season. He finished 45th in the Division 3 regionals in 18:54.3.

As a sophomore, Wirth started the season with a 18:43.4 at Chipewa HiIls to be his best from 2015. He took second places at invitationals at McBain and Lake City. His personal best would come at the end of the season with a 17:41.1 for 19th place at the regional.
