Wirgau getting the job done for the Coyotes both ways

REED CITY — Zach Wirgau is among the sophomores having an impressive season for the Reed City football team.

Wirgau has been playing running back and linebacker for the Coyotes. During summer football, Wirgau found out that he would be playing varsity football.

“I was kind of scared,” he recalled. “But other than that, I just had to get used to it. It’s a matte of practicing.”

Wirgau indicated he’s been comfortable since day one.

On offense, Wirgau has the main duty of running the ball up the middle, along with some blocking.

“You just have to look for a hole and the hit,” he said. “If it’s there, then if it’s not it’s not.”

Wirgau is an outside linebacker with the role of containment.

“I think I’ve been playing pretty well,” he said. “There’s always room for improvement, thought. I’d like to get more tackles and more yards.”

Reed CIty is 5-0 in the Central State Activities Association Gold Division and 6-0 overall.

“We’ve got to keep watching film and cut down on mistakes,” Wirgau said.

Reed City is home against Big Rapids on Friday.
