Wimmer playing key role for Evart volleyball team

EVART — Recent victories for the Evart volleyball team, including a 3-0 triumph recently against Montabella, has Alexus Wimmer excited with the team’s future.

The key in the team’s win over Montabella, which included a 28-26 win in the final game “was to stay up and work as a team.”

Wimmer was on last year’s team that didn’t win a game.

“I think there’s more positive attitudes and a lot more ambition to work hard,” she said.

Among Wimmer’s main roles for the Wildcats has been hitting.

“I’ve been getting better,” she said, adding she hopes to improve in all areas.

Getting some wins under their belts has been critical for the Wildcats, Wimmer acknowledged. Communication and staying consistent continue to be the key in each match.

Since practices started in August, the team has improved “a lot, tremendously. We have better friendships.”

The Wildcats played Beal City earlier in the week and has a match Tuesday at McBain Northern Michigan Christian. The next home match is Sept. 26 against Vestaburg.

“A lot of seniors from the tougher teams have graduated so hopefully, we’ll play good against them,” Wimmer said.
