Willard looking for improvement on cross country team

REED CITY — Devin Willard is in her sophomore cross country season for Reed City.

It’s her second year on the varsity. She also ran middle school cross country.

One of the biggest challenges Willard and the Coyotes had this season was running at the Pine River Invitational on Oct. 3 against a stiff wind.

“It was coming at you and was a little rough,” Willard said. “I felt like I did all right.”

Her best time this season has been 28:29, but she’s been struggling with hip problems.

Willard is hoping to overcome her hip problems through the rest of the season.

“I want to break my PR from last year,” she said. “I just have to practice hard.”

The first mile is the strongest part of her race.

“The second and third miles, I have to push through those,” she said.

The girls team “is looking pretty good,” Willard said. “We have more girls. Some of our girls are improving from last year.”

The regional will be Oct. 31.
