EVART – Evart’s volleyball team is expected to be a major force in the Highland Conference, and among the reasons will be the presence of senior McKenzy McKay.

This marks her third season on the varsity team.

“I think we worked better as a team last year than we have in the past,” McKay said. “Personally, I think I did better with all-around on the court.”

McKay will be an outside hitter for coach Amanda Brown’s Wildcats.

“The key is getting my steps down,” McKay said. “I want to get better on my passing and getting kills down.”

McKay participated in Evart’s volleyball program to get ready for this season. She also worked on basketball during the summer, also. But track is her favorite sport. For the 2022 season, she proved to be one of the best shot putters in the area. She narrowly missed going to the state meet by placing third in the region. She latter threw a qualifying distance in the shot put (34-8). She had a personal record of 88-2 in the discus.

The Wildcats will have their first home match on Tuesday against Farwell. They also host Harrison on Sept. 1.

“I think we’re going to be very good,” McKay said. “We’re very positive and we get along together very well. Our defense will be strong. We need to work on communication and setting.”
