Wildcats fall to Houghton Lake 20-6

EVART -- Evart suffered its third straight loss on Friday 20-6 to Houghton Lake.

Evart is 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the Highland.

Houghton Lake was up 6-0 after the first quarter, but it was 6-6 at halftime. Houghton led 20-6 after the third quarter.

Cameron Brasington scored on a 48-yard fumble recovery return. Hayden Simmer had 10 carries for 88 yards. Justin O'Dell had 11 tackles, plus a fumble recovery. Cam Brasington had seven tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Defensively, Reese Ransom had 10 tackles and Sam Bailey had three sacks.

"We gave up three big plays on defense where we kind of fell asleep," Evart coach Pat Craven said. "Defense played well outside of those three plays. They threw three deep on us and scored three touchdowns. Other than that, we played pretty rock solid defensively.

"I think we had more penalty yards tonight than offensive yards. We had 12 penalties and that definitely hurt us. There were a lot of holding calls tonight."

The Wildcats have homecoming against Lake City on Friday.

"We started out kind of rough, then recovered and played pretty well through the second and third quarter," Pine River coach Terry Martin said. "We played well in the middle."

Pine River is home with Houghton Lake next Friday.

"That's another pretty quality opponent," Martin said.
