EVART - Marcel White got off to a good start for Evart's track team in April and is hoping to finish strong this month.

He keeps getting better. On April 27, White had a personal record in a Highland Conference meet in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.64 seconds. On Tuesday, he was second in a Highland meet with a time of 25.32 seconds at Manton.

White has also been in the long jump with an effort of 18 feet at the Mancelona Invitational. On Tuesday, he was fourth in the Highland Meet. He has been on both sprint relays.

On Tuesday, White anchored the 4x100 relay, which took first. He was the third leg of the 4x200 relay which was first in 1:41.55.

White is a sophomore who missed his freshman season because of COVID 19.

"That was very disappointing," he said. "I was looking forward to my relay team."

White said the 200 is his best open event. He came into the season looking to hit the 23 or 24-second mark.

"My start and going around the corner," is what White lists as his strength in the 200. "I want to work at pacing myself so I can sprint at the end."

White is looking for 18 ½ in the long jump.

"My form is not that good and I need to work on that," he said.

With all the restrictions, and the state not allowing track to start until March 22, White acknowledged there was plenty of work to do.

As for the relays, White noted the pressure he enjoys from being anchor.

White also plays basketball and football.

"I think basketball is my favorite," he said.
