Walker reflects on season for Reed City runners

REED CITY  — Brett Walker is a Reed City sophomore runner who recently came off a strong season.

Walker has been running cross for three years. He ran in middle school but did not run as a freshman.

“I missed it,” he said. “It’s going good. I’m improving a lot.”

Walker said he faced good competition at Chippewa Hills late in the season in a huge invitational

“I could have done better,” Walker said. “I started late in the season. I missed only one meet. I run through the winter. I do track too.”

He runs a lot of distances in track and said cross country prepares him for the spring.

“We run a lot more for meets and performances rather than in track,” Walker said, adding he prefers track. “It’s not as cold and you also do just two miles.”

He and Brad Wirth were the only two boy runners for Reed City.

“We can’t score points because we need (five to score),” he said.

Reed City was at the regional and Walker was looking for a new personal record. He was 86th in 23:05.48.
