EVART — Jericho VanScoyoc completed recently what was a productive baseball summer for the Evart Wildcats and is looking forward to upcoming activities.

He’ll be a senior this coming year and has played two varsity baseball seasons.

“I did pretty good last year,” VanScoyoc said. “I hit around .300. It was from coaches helping me getting better at my batting stance.”

VanScoyoc played center and left field. Center field is his favorite spot.

“There’s a lot more action out there and you command the outfield,” he said. “I have a good glove and pretty good speed.”

Defensively during the spring season, VanScoyoc was able to make some tough catches including some on the dive.

During the summer, “I was focusing on getting a better batting stance and more power into my at bat,” he said.

The summer season yielded some strong results for VanScoyoc.

He also plays basketball and football. In basketball, he focuses on point guard or swing guard and has focused on better ball handling.

His position in football is safety. Practices officially start on Monday.

It’s been challenging keeping up with all three sports. “They’re all equally favorite,” VanScoyoc said. “All of our sports are going to be pretty good this year.”
