EVART — Devon VanOrder has been finding the scoring touch in recent games for Evart’s boys basketball team.

On Feb. 14 in an away game, VanOrder, a sophomore, scored 14 points to lead the Wildcats to a 47-41 victory over Manton. The next night at home, he had seven points in his team’s 48-43 victory over Marion.

“The guys worked hard,” VanOrder said after the victory against Marion. “We were able to keep it going. I didn’t feel I was tired from the last game. I don’t think the other guys did either. We work just as hard in practices as we do in games.”

His cousin Jarek, an Evart junior, is among the top players on the team. Devon’s role is somewhat different from his cousin, who plays a physical role in the post.

“I’d say I expect a little bit of everything from me,” VanOrder said. “I feel like I do my best on defense. My physicality is my best strength and boxing out.”

VanOrder is excited over the remaining weeks of the season.

“A lot of teams are looking at the post-season and hopefully looking over us,” he said. “I think we’ll be looking to surprise them.”
