VanOrder getting job done for Evart basketball team

EVART — Nolan VanOrder is among the Evart basketball players anxious to be playing their best basketball in the final week of the regular season as they get ready for districts.

The Wildcats had one of their better performances recently when VanOrder scored 13 points in a 58-46 Highland Conference boys basketball victory over Manton.

“It was really important to get back on a winning track,” he said. “Our free throws weren’t really on but I think we played really good defense. We got some turnovers and played well.”

It was one of VanOrder’s best scoring games.

“I had more opportunities to score to tell you the truth,” he said. “It’s been balanced. People have been stepping up and filling in spots where they need to.”

VanOrder and the Wildcats are looking to pick up several more wins before calling it a season. The key, he said “is playing good defense, getting turnovers and making our shots and not turning the ball over.”

The Wildcats haven’t been having their entire roster available for various reasons. Getting everyone available “would help a lot,” VanOrder said. “We were missing some guys (Feb. 11). It hurt, but we played well without them.”

The Wildcats were able to stop Manton’s big man Tyler Swing, a 6-foot-4 center effectively enough to pull out the victory.

“We double-teamed him and stopped him, slowed him down, I should say,” VanOrder said.
